Hi! I own a small recording studio... and decided to contribute by making resampled, remastered or re-recorded versions of the Tyrian music by Alexander Brandon. And I'm not alone, my friend 'kg' is helping me out with this. So far, we did 3 drafts: Those mixes are still drafts. Also, please note that we didn't change a single note! Those are originals with high quality samples, special FX and re-recorded fragments that require velocity changes and a little groove ;-). We did all three, in like 5 hours in a row. Any comments really appreciated. If possible, and accepted, our goal would be to integrate our remasters into the OpenTyrian game. Of course there should be an option to select the original music or the remastered music. Enjoy, and please, comment! NIXin

Oh yeah, we re-recorded Composition in Q (only piano, strings were from midi) and the rest is from pure midi. We also fixed the midi files so they can be opened in Sibelius or sth and you will not die from sorrow after seeing the score! (It wasn't so easy to do, stretching in time and other CRAZY STUFF man). Enjoy. And sorry about bad english Oh, and of course, we'll make these midis available for interested, but you'll have to pay A great price just kidding you don't have to.

Thanks We acctually just came up with the idea to create two versions - one more rocky (more real instruments - electric guitars, percussion) and the other one more electronic (almost pure synth, trashed and distorted drums, etc.). That is IF we have the time. I just listened to the originals and compared them - I think (ours) both the Buy & Sell and Gyges is a bit to mild then and should be brighter. Also noticed that the bass in Buy & Sell should be less "steamy" and with clearer attack. We'll make the corrections when we'll have some more time. Things we'll probably do next: Halloween Ramble Transon Tyrian, The Song Camanis One Mustn't Fall Asteroid Dance Part 1 Any special requests? ;-)

They sound amazing! I would be definitely willing to implement OGG support into OpenTyrian Enhanced for those!
Couple of suggestions: - The choir voices on Buy & Sell would sound better if they were constant through the song, in unison with the lead, but with a low volume, fading to a high volume and back at the moments where they sound right now. At least I imagine it would, the original LDS song has the propriety that it sounds like the choir is singing along with the music. - Composition in Q is perfect, brilliant. Good job. - The synth in Gyges needs to sound more DOEM! instead of DEEM! like it is now. (Uh... yeah...)
Again, good job on these. I look forward to seeing the complete soundtrack!

Thanks. In buy-sell music choir appears only on this single notes (there are 3 sounds in mid: synth, bass and choir; choir sounded like this because this lead was really a choir), but when we were listening to original game music it was just some strange synth instead of choir About Gyges, agree maybe our friend will record guitars instead of synth, that would be nice. And I'm sorry about bad english for last time, so please remember Hm.. but maybe you're right, we should do some more experiments, who said that it should be exactly as in mid, only thing that has to be is this nostalgic feeling.

That's mostly kg's work (he played the piano part) - The synth in Gyges needs to sound more DOEM! instead of DEEM! like it is now. (Uh... yeah...) LOL, I agree totally. We'll deal with it. Again, good job on these. I look forward to seeing the complete soundtrack! Me too. Indeed, sorry for the bad links - the directory listing is enabled as a feature, not a security bug (those are all non-vital files there, and I'm the administrator of that box). About the resynced/rerecorded MIDI's - we'll post them when the full soundtrack is finished. The original ones, ripped by Borg No. One were in pretty bad shape - MIDI0 (one track to rule them all ) and the BPM tempo is WAY out of sync with the rest. It's a painfull and tricky work to mach it. Acctually I have to listen to every midi, and extrapolate it by clicking to the beat. Then, using trail and error technique I mach the tempo and resync the MIDI. Somehow, the MIDIs were not recorded in exact tempos - they are like unnatural (like 172.111111 BPM) and I can only sync to 172.10 so there are rounding errors :/ and I have to quantize every few bars manually. Anyway, we'll get it done though. Best regards, NIXin EDIT: Acctually, the bad links were not my fault. Somehow, this board is destroying the links. So just look at the directory listing: aurinko.nixion.net/~nixin/portfolio/music/OpenTyrian%20Music%20Project/

Hmmmm, a music thread.
You guys need any help with this? I make music and have the tyrain midis, with a lot of soundfonts. I toy with the midis once in a while. :]

I dont think we need that kind of help (soundfonts), because Nixin has about few hundreds GBytes of high quality samples, but please contact Nixin on priv or sth and maybe you could do something with these midis. That would be helpful

nixin, what mixer do you use?
I had a makie and a roland not long ago but it broke. So now i have to rely on my keyboard and a studio program lol

Acctually, as funny as it may sound - I'm still planning and choosing on what mixer to buy (as we don't take on big projects yet). So I use a interface mixer from Alesis, a MIDI controller, keyboard and Cubase/Live/Sonar (depending on what I do). My studio is not "official" yet - for now you could call it a home studio, but we do professional recordings as a mobile recording studio [portable equipment], and I'm yet to find a new better place for it, because the current one isn't dumpend/silenced (acoustics) enough. So we mostly do live recordings and mastering and stuff like that. PS Please, no more off topics Or the moderator will get angry! Angry, I tell ya! Just PM me instead
