I haven't played in a while, but I'm getting back into old games, since I can take them anywhere (thank god for my 1GB Flash disk). Personally, I'm amazed nobody else likes my favorite ship, just the plain old Stalker, the one you get in the arcade mode. The only reason you should really ever choose a ship is for the twiddles and/or armor.
This one has a proton field (which is absolutely devastating), and repair system. It's also got the massive mini mine explosion, but that's a tad bit less useful. It's got 2 of the best twiddle moves in the game. The proton field is also the ONLY way I've found to destroy the claws in Tyrian, other than wasting a whole bunch of plasma storms.
Anything else is just gravy, because when you talk about sheer power, 2 plasma storms can take out anyone.
Claws? i maxed out Sonic, Dual two pulses, and some companion ships. Go back when they come out and then fly forward, unleashing a devastating barrage against the claws, I've blown them up plenty of times without Plasma Storm, which, btw, is horribly overpowered I've wasted boss after boss with that sucker!
Good ol' constant lasers. I wonder if it's even remotely possible to kill one with Protron XD Probably the weakest weapon in the game (aside from Fireball)... Vulcans at max are FRIGGIN NICE, if you have a pimped out engine to handle the power consumption. Just sweep and use Sonic Wave alt with them and you can kill just about anything.

In the saved games by the individuals who put the game i see alll their ships have hyper pulse and fireball as rear. I quite like the ship in the saved files and it proves to be alot better then I had expected when I had thought zica lasers and lasers were the thing to use.
I like the fireball for rear gun but starburst is really good for close combat and if u add the 2 flamethrower as sidekicks its the ultimate close ranged fighter. The disadvantage is that u have to get close to the enemy and u need a good shield and experience in order to know where to move ur ship and when u need to move away before like u run into buildings or run into the boss.
I find the hyper pulse to be not bad and gives it good range maybe the banana gun for front would be better but u need to complete the game first
To make up for any loss power the main sdf gun is there
