I have made a Cheat Engine table which allows you to change various things in tyrian:
Front Weapon
Rear Weapon
Generator
Shield
Left Sidekick
Right Sidekick
Money
Special weapon
Ship
Shield level (you can freeze this to make you indestructible)
Armour Level (you can freeze this to make you indestructible)
Just need to download cheatengine and run it "select process to open" button (button top left) and select Open Tyrian, load table with the other button and the table should show the numbers then just change numbers of what you want.

I have included a list of weapons and stuff with the number of what it is so if you wanted to change your front weapon to a Zica laser just change front weapon to 5 you can also interchange front and rear weapons so you could have zica in front and front vulcan in rear for example or have micro bombs in both front and rear slot.
The two entries in the cheat table are current item fitted and the second one will change when you are scrolling in the buy/sell menu which when you select something else it change, I usually change both to the number I want.
Based off the "opentyrian-2.1.20130907-w32-bundle" version of Tyrian you need this version for it to work.
IIRC last time I tried Tyrian 2000 the numbers were the same for each item, but you would have to make another cheat table if you have a different version of Tyrian, which is not to hard just a little time consuming, first search for the corresponding number of what you want from my list say you want to find the generator slot, search for the number change it to another generator in game search for that and it should find two entries in a couple of searches.
I have attached the two files one is the cheat table and the other is a txt file with the numbers for different things.
Hope that helps some people out it can be fun to mess around with the game so I can have a Zica from the start etc, also as it was always hard to get the special you wanted now its easy
