First off you want to download Tyrian 2.1 from here: [www.camanis.net/] or here [tinyurl.com/tyrian21] once it's downloaded, extract it to anywhere you want, my files are located in
After you've done that u want to get DosBox from here: [www.dosbox.com]
Download it and install it.
For a quick setup, read the quote. If you want to go through the startup step by step, read after the quote.[shadow=red,left,300][/shadow]
Step by Step startup:
When the installation of DosBox is done, start it.
Type
When you are connected you want to mount your tyrian folder into dosbox, this is where the most people fail because it isnt clearly stated anywhere.
to mount your tyrian folder simply type
(my path is D:\dos\tyrian, you will obviously have to write your path to the tyrian files hence the easy path i wrote about earlier.)
when you've pressed enter the console will print a message like "Drive C mounted as local directory D:\dos\tyrian\" (but ofc with ur path)
After that type

If the game is running too fast or slow you can change cycles with ctrl+f11 (to lower) and ctrl+f12 (to raise)
im usually running at about 10% cycles but its totally depending on ur CPU, i have a quite good one.
Mail me if you have troubles or the ipxnet server and or any mirror to the files is down (ipx.plainawesome.com)

D:\dos\tyrian
(a simple path is best, ill come back to that later.)After you've done that u want to get DosBox from here: [www.dosbox.com]

EDIT: [glow=red,2,300]Simplified startup.[/glow]
Go to the folder where you installed dosbox, edit file "DosBox # Options.bat" where # is DosBox version number. Scroll down all the way in the options file and at the second last option it should say "ipx=false/true" if its false, change it to true. Below that there'll be a [AutoExec] line, if you writemount c D:\dos\
and thenC:
each in a seperate line after the [AutoExec] line, it will run these commands automatically when DosBox starts. then go into your tyrian folder and create a empty .txt file, rename it "something.bat" (i.e "Playonplainawesome.bat") and make sure the extention changes from .txt to .bat, edit the file and writeipxnet connect ipx.plainawesome.com 41124
netipx netarena -l 5 file0001
Now start dosbox and writecd tyrian
(lets say you have a folder called tyrian in your \dos\ folder, if the tyrian files is located directly in \dos\ you dont need to write cd tyrian) then typesomthing.bat
where somthing.bat is the file you just created, press Enter and voila! The Tyrian Netarena will start!
Thanks to my brother for this solution.
Step by Step startup:
When the installation of DosBox is done, start it.
Type
ipx
and press enter, if the console prints "false" type ipx true
and press enter. after that type ipxnet connect ipx.plainawesome.com 41124
and the console will print something like "IPX Tunneling utility for DosBox" and "IPX tunneling client connected to server at ipx.plainawesome.com"When you are connected you want to mount your tyrian folder into dosbox, this is where the most people fail because it isnt clearly stated anywhere.
to mount your tyrian folder simply type
mount c D:\dos\tyrian
(my path is D:\dos\tyrian, you will obviously have to write your path to the tyrian files hence the easy path i wrote about earlier.)
when you've pressed enter the console will print a message like "Drive C mounted as local directory D:\dos\tyrian\" (but ofc with ur path)
After that type
C:
and press enter. Now your console should say C:\ instead of Z:\. Now type netipx netarena -l 5 file0001
(please note that -l is a small L and other guides say -l 1, i dunno why but when i play 5 makes it go smooth, all the others makes us drop in fps), now Tyrian netarena will magically start!
