I was wondering, what is your honest opinion on the Front Mega Pulse and the Rear Mega Pulse?
Personally I am an actual supporter of the weapon. Okay, they could have added more shots in it of course, but I actually like its remarkable ability to split into smaller, Multi/Pulse Cannon based bullets whenever it hits a target. Furthermore, the Rear Mega Pulse at Level 11 does not only fire two shots to the left and right respectively, but also has a front shot and a rear shot added to it.
The Nortship Super Pulse is similar, only the round bullets released Level 11 Starburst blasts upon contact.
And the Mega Pulse in Tyrian 2000 on GBA is actually one of the strongest weapons you can have (I beat levels without dying once in one line), despite its high energy drain...

It's a while I don't have time to play but if memory serves... it sucked to me. Yeah, I love the idea of splitting bullets and yes, I like the pattern but every time I use it I have the feeling it just does not push enough damage. At the end of the game, I'm generally loyal to my Zica laZer! It is my understanding that the standard laser is just better in terms of dmg/sec but ... come on. It's just better. And blue. And has the zica tag attached to it.
I have heard there's a Zica Laser GTX 299.9 Pro dual sli xxx ULTRA silent LED BBQ which will actually use its own internal subspace generator, which has been shipped in since the first release (just to deliver the massive costs) but never activated for marketing reasons...

Personally I wish that the bullets which split from the Mega Pulse were much more powerful. I mean, the side and rear shots of the Level 11 Rear Mega Pulse release an 8-way Multi Cannon shot upon impact, while the front shot releases bigger fireballs (the same shots the BattleShip Class FireBomb uses, but without the actual side shots)

The front Mega Pulse is my "poor-man's laser" - at upgrade levels 10/11, it tracks with your ship like the laser and is second in damage only to the Laser/Zica Laser, I've found, and until the difficulty level goes up to the point when its DPS is insufficient, its split-shot area coverage helps take out small enemies.
Upgrade level 9 is serviceable, but should only be used if the level you're playing has 2 front upgrade pods, but any level below that and it's miserably underpowered. Don't bother getting the Mega Pulse unless you have enough money to upgrade it to at least level 10. Generally when I play, I'll use the Pulse cannon until I get Mega Pulse, then Laser.
Rear mega pulse sucks; it's less useful, less versatile, and less powerful than the Sonic Wave.

Personally I've never really liked it - looks like it's weak to me. But then again I've never actually tried it at 10 or 11, so...

In Episode 4, the Rear Mega Pulse at Level 11 can be more useful as there can be enemies coming to the sides, like the ears at the EyeSpy level. The two shots to the sides can be quite handy.
Besides, the front shot of the Rear Mega Pulse gives an extra front shot, and combine THAT with a Level 11 Front Mega Pulse. But of course, any opinion counts. One finds it a great gun, an other finds it better and prefers other weapons instead.
