Hey folks,
I crafted a very quick-n-dirty installer/uninstaller for r994 on win32 using InstallJammer.
Is there any possibility that you guys (Mindless, Yuriks) can post this somewhere for the community? Does google code allow for .exe uploading? Or maybe put that on camanis.net?
I can also provide the source of my project (.mpi & datafiles) if you guys wanna make the installer yourself. All you then need is InstallJammer.
See ya!

You might want to take a look at NSIS. It's a very popular installer system for opensource projects. I don't really think we need an installer though.

Well... maybe we don't, but the average noob might. Just a tought PS: It also includes necessary 2.1 datafiles, (minus old DOS executables and such), so its really a dummy-proof "install and play" procedure.

My personal experience says AntX is right , the average user needs an installer, anything more complicated ( extract this, copy that... ) is too hard. I've only used NSIS before so i dont know how it compares to other install-engines, it was hard to figure out but atleast its fairly documented.

As far as InstallJammer is concerned, it's pretty straight-forward, and is also opensource. Mindless is right though, Nullsoft's Installer is way more used in the FOSS world.

i agree with mindless: the game doesn't need an installer, since the files needed could simply be esxtracted from a compressed file (7z, zip, rar, etc...)
in my opinion a complete package with everything (tyrian2.1 cleaned files, last release binary) should be enough for windows users.
i don't use linux any more, but i think it would be pretty similar to windows.
