I want to do a YouTube playthrough of OpenTyrian Classic, but I can't find a program that can capture it with decent quality. So far I've tried CamStudio, but the video comes out awful. I'm not sure it's because of the codec I picked, but I don't think I'm going to want to use that program anyways.
What graphics layer/backend does OpenTyrian use to display itself? I know it's not OpenGL or DirectX (otherwise Fraps would pick it up), so how does that work? If I know that much, then I can probably go around looking for a freeware video capture program myself.
EDIT: Turns out FFDShow codec records poorly. Aside from that, though, the recorded video only shows OpenTyrian Classic in a 320x200 box (or whatever the specific dimensions are). Understandable, given that this is a work in progress, but would there be a way to record it full screen, by any chance?

Uh, Tyrian's resolution IS 320x200. Anyway, OpenTyrian uses DirectDraw or GDI+ for output, I think, it depends on your system. It doesn't use any 3D acceleration though. As for a codec, www.techsmith.com/download/codecs.asp is very popular. EDIT: Oh, FFDshow itself includes a lossless codec you may be interested in: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FFV1
