Hello, I've visited this forum a couple of times, and I'm glad that
there is still a live Tyrian community! I'll probably fit right in, being
that I love Tyrian to bits, it was one of the greatest games I ever
played growing up. For all who don't know me, tgfcoder, (which
is probably all of you!) I'm a programmer, a computer nerd, a composer, (I play piano. Composing comes easier ;D).. And an artist.
Which is probably a great thing! Among countless other Tyrian
clones, remakes and take-offs I present my own! Pandora.. which
is a game, very similar to Tyrian, although probably won't be as
complicated.. There's only one person doing the work.
I work on Pandora on my other machine, which is not connected to
any outside communications at the moment.. so, I had to take
photos of it with my phone, and upload it to this computer.
I have decided to have the resolutino 512x384, I loved Tyrian's detailed 320x200 but I wanted a bit more space.
Here are some shots: (Keep in mind I have worked on it for only a little over 3 hours.)
Placeholder title screen. Check out the nifty planet
The menu
In game shot (Very very early stages... THERES A PURPLE DASHBOARD! )
Close-up
of the player's ship at present. Green=transparent
Close-up of the first enemy ship I drew. Green=transparent once again.
And of course, it looks a lot better without the blurriness
Contributions would be a problem at the moment because the only
way I'd be able to get things from this computer to my working
one would be floppy disk.. And this computer doesn't have an
in-built drive.. being a new-ish laptop.
But once I do get it networked to a net-capable machine, it'd
be great to have contributions!
At the moment, the game is running on MIDI music and WAV
sounds. The music will be primarily composed by me, I think.
