I've been playing this game for years. I just occured to me that I hadn't thought to try out the Gravis Ultrasound Midi setting on the setup program, so I did and got the following error message:
I checked out all of the settings in the appropriate places - I double-checked GUS settings in the .conf file, disabled the regular MPU-401 midi output (required), and made sure the places in the .conf file were heading to the right directories (and obviously that the directories were where they should be) - and yet I still get the same error message.
I've checked with other programs that I have GUS enabled on (Jazz Jackrabbit, etc.) and they're working A-ok, which leads me to believe there's something wrong with Tyrian itself.
So here comes the big question... what can I do to fix the problem? Are there missing driver(s) for Tyrian's GUS Midi output for me to download somewhere or is there some as-of-yet problem that I'm unaware of?
Thanks in advance if anyone can help. ^_^

Yeah, that's kind of what I'm figuring. I'm actually curious if it involves having some special files for Tyrian itself (kind of like what Renaissance did with Zone 66, although I wouldn't expect a totally separate music package in this instance).
I should've mentioned that I am running the GUS 4.11 with Mega-Em version 3.10, so that shouldn't be a problem (sorry about that). I've also already tried with and without the GUS's own patches, so I don't think that's the problem either.
Come to think of it, I believe I did once visit that Vogons thread the last time I happened to accidentally misplace my GUS files (happens to me sometimes, even when I have backups). Thanks for the links though.

Uh, not sure then, is the ULTRAMID var set correctly?

Oh. Yeah, that and all of the other settings for the GUS are correct, and DOSBox itself does seem to do a good job of emulating the card with all of the appropriate settings. It's just Tyrian that doesn't seem to want to work for some strange reason. It recently occured to me that I might have an acquaintance that had similar problems since he uses a GUS for some things as well, but this unfortunately appears to be an instance where he couldn't get the GUS to work with a game either. I think I might try a couple other forums as well to see what I could possibly find. Thanks for your help so far. I let you know if I get any further developments on this. PS Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I did play/blast through the game (again) rather quickly and forgot to check back after that. Sorry.

Are you running ULTRAMID before you start up Tyrian?
