RESOLVED AT POST NUMBER 13
hi to everyone
i'm wondering what are the differences between these 2 versions, and i answered myself with:
CLASSIC: just a port from tyrian to opensource with bug fixes, platform independent, let the original game working on linux, mac, windows xp, vista (maybe 7).
ENHANCED: just a "testing place" to implement new ideas without involving the "pure and classic" version supporters.
is that correct? anything else?
i would like to complete the FAQ with question like that (classic or enhanced?) and with changelog!
another big question is: is anyone playing at the original tyrian? in my opinion those players should "upgrade" to opentyrian because of the activity of this project. i should make a poll.

That's pretty much it, Enhanced is where new features go, thus it's constantly in a state of flux and more likely than not has some stuff broken.

OK, but can you tell me (and to the community) WHAT exactly change? because i've tried both and i can't find any difference.
maybe it will be useful using CLASSIC for stable releases, and ENHANCED as beta releases.
because in my opinion now the release/update procedure is "crappy" because enhanced receive the same revision number of classic, also if the updates affect only classic.
what do you think?
thanks

mmh seems nobody can answer me.
is this Enhanced version Useless?
what i discovered playing several hours to both version and what i discovered asking for the differences, seems yes: the enhanced version is something useless. I think so because when the Classic receive a new feature/bug fix, also the enhanced version receive an update, but in fact nothing changes (same release number but different developing).
it will be useful changing names of the 2 version in: - OpenTyrian = the old Classic with new name and - OpenTyrianTest / Beta = the old Enhanced with new name?

grezzo16: That's just how SVN works, live with it. Revision numbers aren't version numbers.
As for what changes in Enhanced, it's internal code stuff, it has a console (press control-insert and then tilde), the way save files are handled, highscores aren't broken anymore and it's generally more configurable. (Be sure to read the README)

ok ok ok ok thanks yurkis! anyway i'm a little bit disappointed about the impossibility to separate the 2 branches and using different revision number.

hi to everyone i've just read with a quick look the readme of the enhanced (whit NotePad is a little crappy because of the layout, should i use Word?) and yes, there are differences between classic and this. but IN MY OPINION what i've suggested is really happening: Enhanced = beta, were improvements are tested; Classic: stable release.
Anyway Classic seems to be more updated.
You know that i'm working on some FAQS useful for newbies like i was, and what should i write under the question: "If i just want to play at the best, complete, ultraupdated, with improvements version, Should i use the classic or the enhanced? and why?"
thaaaanks

I think that Classic version should stay as close to the orginal as possible, only with bug-fixes and some features like internet play in the future. Enhanced version should be for developed in the future not only with the bugfixes, but also new artwork contributions, new episodes, new weapons, maybe 3d lighting (yeah, im dreamer, but maybe... ), removing silly or annoying things from orginal, etc.

Except the episodes, artwork or weapons will be separate addons.

@ yurkis
so now what you would say in a few words to a new player, about Classic and Enhanced?
example: - Classic= classic/original fun on new pc! - Enhanced= new fun on new pc!

i mean: to write some documentation for introduce new player to opentyrian, how would you explain in just 2 words, if they have to use Classic or Enhanced?
Or i shall use "classic=less buggy" and "enhanced=code stuff"?

I was replying to your other post tyrian2k.proboards23.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=opentyriangeneral&thread=221&page=1 when I noticed that you answered your own question about Classic vs Enhanced. On the other hand, you have to understand that neither of those have anything to do with stability. The Classic edition will, like any other software, contain bugs. These will eventually be fixed, but they will not add new features. Enhanced is all about creating new stuff, adapting the core to make it modular, and so in the future, Enhanced will be more easily customisable, and people will be able to create new mods complete with maps, weapons, sounds, ships, ennemies, maybe a completely new episode! Enhanced might or might not get stable one day, depending on where the devs and community want the project to go feature-wise. And that's about it, I think. Oh and BTW, welcome to the forums!

ANTX i have to thank you for your replies and apologize me for my "mass cross post".
now i've really understood what are the differences between classic and enhanced and i hope to see in the future the whole team+players developing Enhanced and releated new stuff (levels, episodes, weapons, ships...)
nice work!
