Really, what are the strongest forward-firing weapons for every slot? and that means shots that go forward. shots that end up pretty much right to the sides or down off the screen don't count towards total strength. Pretending you were right in front of a boss or something so all shots heading towards the top of the screen would hit, and ignoring charge time (as in, charged weapons will be not-so-charged), what's the best I could use? and what's the freaking difference between lightning/zica/laser anyway, other than the fact lighting drains no matter what?
and wtf are the wobbley sidekicks?

I think the wobbleys are meant as a joke - they're very weak, have a stupid name/appearance, and can only be gotten at the end of the game (only on hard mode?).
I think the best options would be laser, plasma storms for the sidekicks and the SDF main gun for the special. Fireball is the strongest rear weapon and fires forward, more or less.

Sonic Wave fires more forward than Fireball, I think, and it always seemed stronger, too.

I'm fairly sure you're both wrong - I don't think sonic impulse goes through enemies (though it seems that it should), and although sonic impulse is a great rear weapon I *think* the fireball is stronger - I haven't taken rate of fire into account, though.

Sonic IMPULSE, the FRONT WEAPON, does go thru enemies if I remember correctly. Sonic WAVE, the REAR WEAPON, does not, however.

Ahh... that'll be where I've gone wrong then. I suppose that, combined with the firerate makes it the best choice of rear weapon then!

Regarding lightning/zica/laser differences - as you say, lightning drains the most and has a crazy high firing rate. Zica has a low firing rate and at level 11 the shots will not follow your ship horizontally. The laser is the strongest front weapon due to its insane firing rate and power. It will also move horizontally with your ship, but obscures the line of sight in front of your ship because of this.
The lightning gun sucks (literally!)... I'd rather have hyper pulse or even widget beam over it anyday.
So... I was playing with front and rear fireballs together the other day; it was stupid as hell - they should have made the front fireball fire more towards the centre. With them both equipped, you effectively have no front weapon, just a rear weapon that is twice as powerful.
...and that's my quazi off-topic post!

Lightning Gun: It's very powerful and useful the first time you get it but when you have stronger weapons like the Zica just forget the lightning gun. It's too power hungry for what you get out of it.
Zica Laser: It's hard to find (one of the secret level warps in a level in Episode 3 takes you to a level that has this weapon for sale) but well worth it. I usually upgrade it to level 10 and then leave it there because in my opinion, the level 10 Zica Laser is actually better than the level 11 version.
Laser: OMG, this thing has overkill written all over it! If you upgrade this weapon to level 11 don't start complaining that the game is too easy.

I hear what you're saying about Zica laser level 10 - the fact that it follows your ship when level 11 doesn't makes it a viable option.
Does nobody around here have any love for Hyper Pulse?!? Good weapon, that.

I have Laser as front, and I always found the Guided MicroBombs or the Rear Mega Pulse the best Rear Weapon. Plasma Storm as Sidekick FTW and the SDF Main Gun as special...

Laser: OMG, this thing has overkill written all over it! If you upgrade this weapon to level 11 don't start complaining that the game is too easy. You're not playing it on a hard enough difficulty, then... Has anyone else noticed that the difficulty level seems to increase each time you complete one episode? If I start on Insane, by the time I'm at episode 4 I'm earning 8 times the default amount for each coin/gem, and the enemies have gotten significantly tougher...and the high score registers a difficulty level that you can't pick when you start (not Suicide nor Lord of the Game). New Deli following Savara Y in episode 1 becomes nearly impossible to beat even with a Front Laser and SDF Main Gun and Stalker-C and HSX Class C and Gravitron Pulse Wave...I have to put it on Slug Mode!

I tend to go mostly for Suicide or Lord of the Game. Then I have Mega Pulse as front, Rear Mega Pulse on rear, Plasma Storm on left and right (Unless I get the BattleShip Class FireBomb) and then the SDF Main Gun as Special. And I use the NortShip.
