I would suggest going into setup.exe and turning sound to soundblaster

I have the same problem, but the setup program always says "Error 253: Sound effects disabled" when I try to use any of the soundblaster options, "Unable to initialize Gravis sound" with Gravis, and "Error 192:..." with WSS. I'm using dos-box and I haven't messed around with the sound emulation.

You have to add a second c
as in Mount c C:\Windows...

Think of it as this: mount c (as) c:\directory run (just the name, not the path of executable/etc).exe
Beforehand, set your CPU cycles to something tolerable and frameskip to 1 if you use WinXP.

CPU speed setting can be adjusted also [glow=red,2,300] during[/glow] the game, while you're in the Dosbox; you haved to use function keys for that (Ctrl + F9 and the like). Check the manual! It's harder to answer about lack of sound on particular hardware and Windows combinations. I think it's a question to geeks ;D and to hardware/software vendors. In my case (Windows machine bought from store in 2005), all works well - music, sound effects, and the speed adjusting is quite acceptable as well. Switching between fullscreen and small window mode... What more can you ask for? Also make sure that you mount the exact partition and folder where you've put the Tyrian executable files. cheers, Phr.

I don't see why you'd need frameskip for Windows XP and not otherwise. Personaly, I'd avoid frameskip in all cases.

The redraw tears if you don't use frameskip under SP2.

Sure that's just not a problem with your settings? I haven't seen any tearing.
